FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Cincinnati, OH, 3.12.2021
ish to lead the community as new operator of the Cincinnati Jewish Teen Initiative
ish Festival (dba ish), known for their groundbreaking Jewish and Israeli Arts & Cultural Festival, is expanding their work to include intentional Jewish Teen Education and Engagement. ish’s team, led by Marie Krulewitch-Browne, will focus on a teen-centered design approach and ongoing stakeholder engagement and coordination.
Their work will lead and support the development of creative programs throughout the Jewish teen landscape in Cincinnati. “Our goal is to create spaces where every teen can feel at home in Cincinnati's Jewish community and feel proud of their heritage,” Krulewitch-Browne says, “there’s a place for every teen under our tent.”
In October 2020, the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati released a Request for Proposals for new strategies and programs to address engagement goals for Cincinnati Jewish teens. “We have a tremendous amount of faith in ish’s ability to work with all stakeholders to meet those goals – including teens, parents, and the many individual and institutional partners”, says Brian Jaffee, Executive Director of the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati.
The Cincinnati Jewish Teen Initiative, which is supported by the Jewish Foundation of Cincinnati and the Jim Joseph Foundation, is part of the Jewish Teen Education & Engagement Funder Collaborative--a cross-community effort in which national and local funders work together to develop, nurture and scale new approaches to teen engagement. ish’s local, Cincinnati-focused work, is user-centered and teen-led, fostering education and engagement through cross-institutional, collaborative, and holistic approaches.
Rabbi David Burstein, an ish Board Member and Chair of ish's Teen Advisory Board, spoke to what this initiative means for ish and for teens, “There is a Jewish saying, Chazak, Chazak, V'Nitchazek. It means, ‘Be strong, be strong, and we will all be made strong.’ This is what ish’s goal is for the Cincinnati Jewish Teen Initiative, to uplift teens. ish will help teens have a place to be seen and heard, while also creating intentional spaces for professionals and role model adults. The teens will also help grow ish, and we will embrace our community’s changing needs together.”
Informational Sessions for community members, partners, and parents will be held on April 5 and April 6 at 4pm. Visit ishFestival.org to learn more and register.
